Contest Results Update

The ARRL and CQ have posted results from a couple of recent contests. First, I placed third in the Delta division and 18th nationally in my class in the ARRL SSB Sweepstakes 2012.  I was 11th place among all classes within the Delta Division. I don’t really mind being beat by multi-op stations – I didn’t work… More »

LOTW Confirmation With Johnston Island – 23 years later!

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to look through some old paper log books and see if I could identify any DXCC entities that I still need to get QSL confirmation for DXCC endorsements. As it turns out, I found a QSO with Johnston Island hand scribbled in an old spiral bound ARRL logbook.  Johnston Island… More »

What’s Wrong With Hamfests Nowadays!

I enjoy many aspects of our hobby. I like to participate in contests and QSO parties. I chase DX and work special event stations. I have a few awards hanging on the wall and I enjoy fiddling with my gadgets. I also like to attend hamfests. It’s a great place to pick up a bargain… More »

Amplifier!

I’m picking up an amplifier at a hamfest this weekend.  Looking forward to having the ability to go QRO, if needed.  My  high power tuner is in place and working great.  Tried to work South Korea last night…but too many people on the coasts apparently had bigger signals.  BAH!

CQ WPX Contest SSB

Unfortunate that the CQ WPX fell on Easter weekend this year. It left little time to actually work the contest. I put over 150 entries in the logbook though. A fun time and it gave me a good opportunity to try out my new LDG AT-1000Pro II antenna tuner.

ARRL Sweeps CW Results

The results are in for the ARRL Sweepstakes CW contest.  I did better than last year – approx. 15, 000 points versus approx. 33,000 points.  Didn’t get a clean sweep in CW this year….missed out on two sections.  Tops in my class in Arkansas and 3rd in the ARRL Delta Division.  Keeping my fingers crossed… More »

Improvements to the Shack

I’m currently in the process of making several improvements to the shack.  In the middle of last week I received an LDG AT-1000 Pro II automatic antenna tuner in the mail.  Unfortunately, due to a business trip I’ve not been able to use it.  I hooked it up and made sure it worked….but other than that,… More »

Is there a Security Issue with the Popular DX Cluster Feed?!

In this day of tight internet and email security there appears to be a breach with the “DX spotting cluster”. It is very possible that someone can log onto the DX cluster and post comments using YOUR call sign.  It happened to me last week.  Now, I’ll admit I may be doing something wrong here…not… More »
